Un particulier a enregistré plusieurs centaines des noms de domaine en .fr se rapprochant de nom de domaines institutionnels à une lettre près. Cette information a été fournie sur Twitter le 22 juillet par l’utilisateur Mikolajek.

Le typosquatting
Dans les opérations de phishing classique, les fraudeurs achètent des noms de domaine avec des lettres ressemblant à celles du nom de domaine légitime. Par exemple, un “u” vient remplacer un “v”. Il est intéressant de noter que les lettres sont ici souvent choisies en fonction de la proximité sur le clavier avec les lettres légitimes. Ces dernières peuvent aussi être doublées ou inversées. Le cybercriminel cible des internautes qui font des fautes de frappe en cherchant à accéder à un site (“typosquatting”). L’objectif est ici semble t’il d’attaquer la machine de l’internaute avec un malware.

La problématique du “typosquatting”
Les actions de “phishing” classiques sont assez faciles à détecter en amont en analysant le nom de domaine d’une adresse email email ou d’un lien. Le problème dans le cas du “typosquatting” est que l’internaute est déjà sur le site frauduleux. Il peut en particulier faire l’objet d’une attaque immédiate par un malware.
Comment se protéger du “typosquatting” ?
Le meilleur moyen est d’utiliser un moteur de recherche pour accéder à un site.
Par exemple si l’on saisit “mediavacance.fr” ou “mediavcances.com” sur Google, le moteur de recherche propose en première position (après les annonces commerciales) le site légitime “mediavacances.com“.
